Glauconite is used as an important natural adsorbent or as a complex agronomic ore.
In addition, it is used in the reclamation of soils contaminated with radionuclides.
Glauconite is a concomitant component of phosphorite ores or forms independent deposits of quartz-glauconite sands.
In Ukraine, deposits of quartz-glauconite sands of the Neogene and Cretaceous periods are widespread on the territory of the Volyn-Podilsky Plate, the Ukrainian Crystalline Shield, and in the southeastern part of the Dnieper-Donetsk Depression.
There are no explored deposits of glauconite in Ukraine, but in a number of regions quartz-glauconite sands with a glauconite content of 40-60 percent are common, which can be used as an associated mineral in the extraction of amber using the classic quarry method.
To increase the mineral resource base of glauconite, it is planned to conduct prospecting, prospecting and evaluation, and exploration work within the Middle and Left-bank Transnistria, in Crimea, the Donetsk region, and in other sedimentary basins.
